40th & Forward

Boys Hope Girls Hope
2017 Leadership Gathering

Wednesday, September 27 - Friday, September 29

This year, BHGH celebrates 40 years of impacting the lives of young people in need, their families, our communities, and those of us who are fortunate to be a part of this mission! We look forward to the opportunity to come together as One Team with One Mission and continue the dialogue we started a year ago. At our 40th & Forward gathering, we will celebrate our accomplishments and work to continue the success of BHGH into the future. Specifically, we will discuss what we want to accomplish together over the next 10 years and how we will organize as a network to achieve our shared goals. Issues we will cover at the gathering include: how to approach fundraising network-wide; scholarship funding; measuring the quality and impact of our work; and how we can improve our overall governance model in order to best achieve our mission.

Logistics

Airport Transportation

The Lambert St. Louis International Airport is about 15 minutes from the hotel.

The Sheraton offers complimentary shuttle service to and from the airport. Sheraton’s shuttle begins running at 5:00am and the last shuttle will run at 10:30 pm.

Attendees who are flying in on Southwest Airlines, they will go to Terminal 2, Exit 15 For all other airlines, they will go to Terminal 1 Exit 18. These gates are located near the baggage claim area. The shuttles run every 30 minutes, so it is not necessary to call, however, there is a courtesy hotel phone located by the baggage pick up area if attendees wish to call for pickup service.

To take the shuttle to the airport, attendees should wait in the hotel lobby and the shuttle driver will come in and announce, “Airport”. This shuttle runs every 30 minutes as well. If driving or renting a vehicle, the hotel has complimentary self-parking.

St. Louis

The societal circumstances here in St. Louis regarding the death of Anthony Lamar Smith and the acquittal of Jason Stockley have played out on the world stage in recent days. Since the announcement of the verdict on September 15th, peaceful protests - at times coupled with agitators - have emerged each day within St. Louis City and surrounding areas. Though acquittals or dropped charges for police-involved shootings across the US has become all too familiar, St. Louis carries the distinct aftermath of Ferguson which has influenced the increased activism and heightened tensions currently unfolding across our community.

During your time here, we encourage your mindful awareness toward the range of civic expression, emotions, and opinions surrounding these matters that you may encounter. Recognizing that as individuals we may stand on varying sides of these issues, our hope is that we stand together on the side of a commitment to a more just future.

Hospitality

A hospitality room with snacks and refreshments will be available in the Sheraton Westport Plaza throughout the conference. For participants with later departures on Saturday, breakfast will be available in the hospitality room. The room number will be published here next week.
